Diet Myths


Humans are people who are surrounded by myths. There are sexual myths, myths regarding certain races and even about diets. I am not sure where these things come from, but I do have a hunch. I often think myths begin as a way to explain something. People have a need to be able to explain what is going on even if they don't understand it. This is why myths exist and what their purpose are. They might have been a way to tell people years ago to stay away from something bad. In most cases, I think they are nothing more than a way to control people.Like most things in life, there are myths about diet as well.

These serve no purpose and do nothing except hurt you in the long run. You should never believe anything that isn't surrounded by fact. All it does is confuse you and lead you in the wrong path. There is no gain from this. Let's talk about some of the dieting myths out there. I'm sure you have heard of some of these and some of them might be new to you. I'm sure a few of them will make you scratch your head and make you rethink your own diet.

Cutting out the fat will make you loose weight. So many people today actually believe this. Sure, cutting out the fat is important. If you cut out the fat and eat processed foods or foods labeled 'low fat' in greater qualities you won't loose weight. If anything you will gain weight. As with anything regarding diet, you must put it all in perspective. You can't cut one area and eat too much in another area. This serves no purpose and will hurt you in the long run. People who cut out the fat either end up relying on carbs or sugar more than they normally would. Carbs will put on the weight very quickly if you aren't careful.

Working out three times a week for a half hour will make you loose weight.
If this were only true. Nothing will make you loose weight except eating less calories. Sure, if you exercise more you will burn more calories. But, it is all about what you put into your body.

Walking is a great way to loose weight.
This is true. You burn about 100 calories for every mile that you walk. Couple this with a good diet and you have a great weight loss plan. This is great because it doesn't cost extra money that you might not have to go to the gym. Everyone who has two legs can do this. I would though make sure that you have shoes that are suited for walking. You don't want a pair of shoes that hurts your feet. Ladies, I don't suggest that you go for your five mile walks in high heels. Wear something that you feel comfortable in.

More protein means more muscle.
This is false. Protein has many functions in the body. Some of that is cell growth. That doesn't mean though that you will gain muscle if you eat ten pounds of steak each day. Muscle is built through exercise.

You can eat eggs without getting fat.
This is true. This is one of the topics that really get under my skin. For so many years we were told that eggs are bad for us. I don't believe this for a second. Eggs are low in saturated fats. They are high in protein. Like all things in life, you should eat things in moderation. I am not suggesting that you eat a dozen eggs each day. Eat them when you crave them or when you feel like it. The whole idea that these little gems are bad for us is a crock of shit. I love eggs and I am sure you do too. Diet drugs are a great way to loose weight.

For the most part that is false. Unless you have some sort of health condition, these will do next to nothing for you. In the old days, diet drugs were nothing more than speed. Of course, if you take speed you will loose weight. Don't rely on drugs, rely on a good diet. There are no easy ways out in life.

Vitamins will cause weight loss.
This isn't true. All these do is provide you with what you should have been getting with a good diet. If you are eating properly, there should be no need for vitamin pills.

You can eat fatty foods while dieting.
This is very true. Of course you can. Just make sure that you are getting enough exercise. Don't go eating french fries for every meal. Use common sense. From time to time nothing is bad for you. There you have it. I hope that you have put aside all of those myths that you have had over the years. I am sure that you have learned something that will change your life.
